We just got back from a whirlwind trip to Salt Lake City. I took the kids with my sister-in-law (Michelle) and my nephew Gavin up to Utah. I have always wanted to take the kids to the "This is the Place" heritage park and pretty much the minute school was out so were we.
We left on Tuesday and our first stop was the Color Me Mine store. The kids loved making father's day mugs for James (don't worry, they couldn't keep a secret and the minute we got home they gave them to him). We then headed up to Salt Lake where we stayed near Temple Square. The kids enjoyed swimming until it was time for bed.
The next morning we got up bright and early and headed for the park. It was great! I think that school was still in and there were only a handful of people. Our first stop was to Brigham Young's house, where Ethan told Brigham all about Brigham Young. The park was awesome. I thought that the kids would get bored with it, but they never did. They went from one house to the next, asked some really good questions, and really enjoyed it. If you haven't been there, GO, GO, GO!
That night we took the kids to their "new favorite restaurant".....The Old Spaghetti Factory. They really thought it was the coolest place and it was amazing to see them clear their plates!
On Thursday we first stopped off at Gateway Mall and did some serious damage. It was fun to go to a real mall again and my credit card proved it. We headed on to Provo, but before we got there I was able to stop off and see Aunt Sammy in Eagle Mountain....We love you Aunt Sammy! We settled into our hotel in Provo, swam some more, did more damage at the mall in Orem, and then we went to the kids "newest favorite restaurant"......Teppanyaki's! They were in complete awe, and can't wait to take James.
We finally left "Zion" on Friday, but not before hitting the same place we started our trip with.....The Sweet Tooth Fairy Shop. If you are looking for some outrageous cupcakes, this is the place for you. It is in Provo and we LOVED it.
On the way back we stooped at the "Hole N the Rock" near Moab. It is a place were this man dug a cave out of the side of a hill. His cave, I mean home, was 5000 sq. feet big and slightly creepy. I remembered going there when I was little and had to make my kids experience it too. They thought it was strangely cool. We also stopped on the side of the road so that the kids could climb up the hill to one of the "Arches". It was windy but beautiful!
On a final note....Thanks to a great dad, and husband who stayed behind to work, but encouraged us to have a great time. Thanks James for sending us off.....we missed you horribly and it would have been 1000 times better with you. We can't wait to take you. WE LOVE YOU!

I want to go - especially to Tepanyaki's - looks like you had so much fun! It is so crazy that you have a whole summer together!

Melissa....looks like it was so much fun! I'm sorry we didn't end up hooking up in SLC or even Provo, as I was there at the same time:( I probably passed you in the mall.
You guys look great and I think after living in UT for 25 years and never having gone to old Brigham's house, I'm ashamed of myself. Next time we will be certain to make a day of all these wonderful suggestions....
BTW, Old Spaghetti Factory is one of THE best places....love, love, love it. Glad you had fun.
