A Bittersweet Day

Friday was the last day that all three of my children attended the same school. I know that it sounds silly but it is crazy to think that they are getting older and my life is changing. Elijah will now attend Middle School, take a school bus, and will now longer watch over his brother and sister at the elementary school. He is such a great kid. Always doing what is right, always kind to others, and always thinking about what will be best. I love him!

His teacher, who he has only had for two months, wrote him this message on his report card...."Even though you just joined the class, I feel I know you very well. I guess it is because you are so well spoken & out going. Keep your positive attitude always. I know life will be good to you & expect you to do great things"!

I am sad to see this part of my life end, but look forward to the new adventures that we have before us.

Friday also marked the beginning of a 10 week summer vacation. My kids have never had a summer break this long. We look forward to many activities and adventures!

A Memorial Day to Remember

It was my intention to go up to my parent's cabin in Colorado and have a relaxing weekend. The kind of weekend were you don't even have to get out of your pajamas. We got up there on the first day and had a wonderful time relaxing, talking to my parents, and playing in the rain. The next day we woke up to my mom's famous biscuits and gravy....ummmmm. James happened to call just after breakfast and asked me what we were planning on doing for the rest of the day. I told hopefully nothing. Just then my kids started to yell...."Dad's here"! I knew all at once my relaxing weekend was shot!

Immediately after he ate that yummy breakfast, he loaded us all up into the jeep and we headed out. We drove up to Creede (we were actually following my parents in their Jeep) and we went on the Bachelor Loop. It was raining and we got to use the four wheel drive on the car. It was beautiful we saw old silver mines, beautiful ranches, new houses that were meant to look old, deer, and so much more. We then drove on to Freeman's Ranch where we ate delicious hamburgers. We headed home, but James dropped me off with my parents and took the kids on more four wheeled adventures. They had a blast.

Needless to say.....I am still waiting for that relaxing weekend!

When in Farmington......Farm!

James worked very hard, but finished planting our garden today. Hopefully we are more successful this year. Last years garden was just too far away from the house, and we were too lazy to go up the hill to check on it. This year is different, the garden is just right outside our back door. We are growing peas, tomatoes, squash, bell peppers, zucchini, pumpkins, asparagus, and cantaloupe. Until the fall.......

On a side note, while planting the garden with James, Ethan told him how he will propose to his future wife. Riding in a Hot Air Balloon, he will touch down at sunset, by the San Diego Temple, with a candle lite path, he will drop on his knee and ask her to marry him. He wanted to know if James believes in love at first sight. When James said yes, he just got a smile on his face, but supposedly, no one in mind....

His First Scout Campout

After much preparations, Elijah has been sent off on his first overnight Scout Camp! Making James and I $150.00 poorer, he set off with his own tent (that he has to put up by himself), a new sleeping bag, and every other gadget you can think of. We are praying that this enthusiasm will last a few years......at least enough to get his Eagle by the time he is 16! We look forward his report when he gets home.

A Mother's Pay Day

Isn't it great to be a mom, especially on this day every year. Today was perfect....Breakfast in bed, no cooking, no cleaning, and gifts. Why can't it be Mother's Day everyday?

Thanks to my wonderful little family who spoiled me rotten. I ordered breakfast with very specific instructions and it was followed perfectly. They gave me a huge basket full of L'Occitane products! I love you all and am so grateful to be a mom!

One last thought.....can it all end tomorrow night after dinner?

Who is your Hero?

Ethan had a living museum at school tonight. Each third grader got to choose an American Hero to report on. As you approached each child, they had a button on their hand, and when you pushed it they told you all about who their hero was. I saw and heard about quite a few, Martin Luther King Jrs', Helen Kellers', Jackie Robinsons', but I only heard from one Brigham Young. That's right Ethan chose to report on Brigham Young. Ethan told all about Brigham's 27 wives and 56 kids, when he was born, when he died, etc. If there is a Brigham Young fact, Ethan knows it and is happy to share it. We are glad that Ethan chose such an honorable hero to report on. As we were getting ready to leave, he said that he wants to meet Brigham Young someday! We told him he will in a long, long, long time....

A Good Night!

I just wanted to publicly thank my good friend Annie for the great cake recipe. I emailed her on a whim and took a chance and made one of her famous chocolate cakes. Although it could never be as good as hers, it turned out great and every bit of it was eaten by my big fat Mormon family. Thanks Annie!

Also, I just got off the phone with my good friend Julie Rose. It is so nice to still keep in contact with all those people who mean so much to me. It's nice to know that once a friend always a friend. Thanks Heather, Cara, Jamie, Julie, Meri......for all of the phone calls and check ups!
